Subscribe to Team Calendars from Thunderbird

If you want your Team Calendars events to appear in Thunderbird, you can subscribe to Team Calendars.

There are two ways to synchronize your calendar in Thunderbird:

  • Two-way sync (CalDAV) - allows you to view and update Team Calendars events in Thunderbird.
  • One-way sync (iCal) - allows you to view, but not update, Team Calendars events in Thunderbird.

Two-way synchronization allows you to view and update Team Calendars events in Thunderbird.

These instructions are for Thunderbird 68 on MacOS Catalina. Your version may differ slightly.

1. Grab your Team Calendars URL

In Confluence:

  • Select Subscribe at the top of your calendar.
  • Select Thunderbird from the Calendar app dropdown.

2. Add the calendar in Thunderbird

In Thunderbird:

  • From the Home tab, select Create a new calendar > On the network
  • Select CalDAV
  • Enter Username, like john@atlassian.com
  • Paste the Calendar URL you copied earlier in the Location field.
  • Name the calendar. This is the name that will appear in the Thunderbird calendar list.
  • Enter your Confluence
    1. username
    2. password
      i. Login to Confluence
ii. Select your profile picture at the upper right
iii. Select Password under Your Settings on the left
iv. Create an API token. You could use the existing one also.

Repeat this process for any other Team Calendars you want to add.

Subscribe with one-way synchronization (iCal)

These instructions are for Thunderbird 52 on MacOS High Sierra. Your version may differ slightly.

1. Grab your Team Calendars URL

In Confluence:

  • Select Subscribe at the top of your calendar
  • Select iCal from the Calendar app dropdown. Be sure that you don't select Thunderbird for one-way sync.
  • Copy the calendar URL

2. Add the calendar in Thunderbird

In Thunderbird:

  • From the Home tab, select Create a new calendar > On the network
  • Select iCalendar (ICS)
  • Paste the Calendar URL you copied earlier in the Location field
  • Name the calendar. This is the name that will appear in the Thunderbird calendar list.
  • Enter your Confluence
  1. username
  2. password
      i. Login to Confluence
ii. Select your profile picture at the upper right
iii. Select **Password** under Your Settings on the left
iv. Create an API token. You could use the existing one also.

You can now view, but not edit, Team Calendar events in Thunderbird.

How to Import Microsoft Teams Calendar into Thunderbird

Export your Microsoft Teams Calendar in web portal

Open your Outlook calendar and click on the cog icon in the top right corner. Then click “View all Outlook settings” at the bottom.

Go to Calendar ⇒ Shared Calendars. Choose which calendar you want to publish, so you can get an ICS link and add it to your Google calendar. Choose permissions (how you want your events to appear on Google Calendar – if you are doing this for your own use, we recommend choosing the latter option.). Click “Publish.”

Click the link to the .ics calendar file and click “Copy link.”
